Kitchen Assistant

Happy Days Nursery & Preschool in Cheswick Village, Stoke Gifford is seeking a Kitchen Assistant, working 20 hours per week, 1pm to 5pm Monday to Friday.

A little bit about the role…

  • Working 20  hours per week, Monday to Friday you will ensure that all meals are prepared in accordance with the weekly menus, catering for all children, and where appropriate provide alternatives to children with any special dietary needs
  • To ensure that all food preparation and food handling complies with all health regulations and guidelines
  • To assist in the participation and preparation of planned cooking activities with older children when required
  • To safely transport all prepared food to individual nursery rooms
  • To maintain adequate levels of food stocks which are to be stored in appropriate storage conditions
  • To be responsible for ordering all food, maintaining monthly records for stocktaking purposes of all food stuffs
  • To ensure the kitchen and all the equipment is kept clean and tidy
  • To ensure all kitchen equipment and utensils are washed-up after each service, utilising the dishwasher as appropriate

What skills & experience do you need…

  • Knowledge of healthy eating programmes for children and cooking healthy meals
  • Good organisational skills; able to plan own work and resources accordingly
  • Strong team player with a ‘can-do’ attitude. Willingness to support colleagues
  • Demonstrates strong initiative and ability to think on their feet
  • An awareness of dietary requirements would be an advantage although full training will be provided along with a free Food Hygiene certificate if the successful candidate does not already have one
