Regulatory Bodies

Childcare providers in the UK are required to follow national standards and regulations to ensure families and children receive high quality childcare.

In England, the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills (Ofsted) regulates and inspects early years providers.

In Wales, the Care Inspectorate Wales/Arolygiaeth Gofa Cymrul are the independent regulator of social care and childcare.

Ofsted is an independent organisation that provides a quality assurance system through its inspections and reports.

Their inspections are based on the National Standards and Regulations which childcare providers in England are legally required to follow.

In England the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework sets the standards that all providers must meet for learning, development, health and safety.

In Wales the Care Inspectorate Wales/Arolygiaeth Gofa Cymrul register, inspect and take action to improve the quality and safety of childcare.

They inspect care service providers against the requirements of the Adoption and Children Act 2002, Children and Families (Wales) Measure 2010, Regulation and Inspection of Social Care (Wales) Act 2016, Social Services & Well-being (Wales) Act 2014 and their related regulations.
