Payroll Team Leader

Happy Days Nurseries are seeking a skilled Payroll Team Leader to lead the payroll function for our group of nurseries. In this role, you will ensure the accurate and timely processing of payroll for all colleagues, and assist with payroll queries.

You will be an essential link between our People Team and Finance Department, ensuring the smooth operation of payroll activities across the group.

This is a fully remote position that requires a proactive and organized professional with strong payroll experience in the UK. Occasional travel will be required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Payroll Processing: Oversee and ensure accurate and timely payroll processing for all employees across multiple sites.
  • Compliance: Ensure payroll practices are in line with HMRC regulations and other UK employment legislation, including tax, NI, and pension deductions.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and support the payroll team to deliver high-quality payroll services, providing guidance, training, and support as needed.
  • Payroll Queries: Act as the primary point of contact for payroll queries, ensuring timely and professional resolution.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Generate payroll reports for the Head of People and senior management, analyzing data to support decision-making.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously review payroll processes to identify areas for improvement, enhancing efficiency and accuracy.
  • Relationship Management: Collaborate with internal departments, particularly HR and finance, to ensure alignment on payroll processes and employee data.

Experience:

  • Experience: Proven experience in UK payroll processing, ideally within the education or childcare sector.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading a payroll team or function, with the ability to inspire and support team members.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in payroll software and HRIS systems, as well as MS Office (particularly Excel).
  • Knowledge: Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, including tax, national insurance, and pension requirements.
  • Problem Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Time Management: Ability to manage time effectively in a remote environment, meeting deadlines and managing multiple tasks.
