Farlington Celebrates ‘Good’ Ofsted Outcome

Farlington is proud to announce the outcome of its latest Ofsted inspection, with the nursery achieving a Good rating across all areas: quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management.

The report, published following the inspection on 21 July 2025, praised the nursery for its warm, welcoming environment where staff greet children with “warm and happy smiles” and build “highly positive and responsive relationships” with babies. Older children were noted as being confident and independent, cheerfully greeting friends and settling into their day.

Inspectors highlighted children’s respectful behaviour, strong use of manners, and secure understanding of the nursery’s “golden rules.” Staff were commended for introducing expectations clearly and consistently, helping children understand the impact of their actions while promoting positive behaviour.

Leaders were recognised for their “ambitious curriculum,” which follows children’s interests and supports consistent progress. Mathematics was identified as a particular strength, with staff adapting teaching to suit children’s needs – from babies learning numbers through play, to older children exploring trajectory as they push objects down ramps.

Outdoor learning also stood out, with children enjoying bug hunts, potion-making, and physical play, as well as wider community experiences such as visits to local care homes. These activities encourage curiosity, physical development, and an understanding of the world around them.

Nursery Manager Olivia Annalls said:
“I am both proud and delighted with the outcome of our Ofsted report. It is a testament to the dedication, professionalism, and hard work of every single member of the team. I am so pleased with what we’ve achieved together.”

The inspection also recognised the strong partnerships with parents and other professionals, particularly in supporting children with SEND. Parents praised the communication from their child’s key person and the opportunities to extend learning at home, such as sharing books and discussing stories with friends.

While inspectors noted that routines can sometimes disrupt children’s focus, they praised the overall high-quality experiences, inclusive approach, and the nursery’s commitment to ensuring all children achieve the best possible outcomes.

Farlington’s latest Good Ofsted reaffirms its reputation as a trusted early years provider, now proudly part of the Happy Days Nurseries & Pre-Schools group following its acquisition in February 2025.

Building Community and Sustainability at Happy Days Saltford

Building Community and Sustainability at Happy Days Saltford

Aug 21, 2025

Happy Days Nursery & Pre-School in Saltford is proud to be building stronger community connections while supporting families with simple, sustainable initiatives.

Alongside the much-loved Food Swap Shop, the nursery has now introduced two exciting new additions:
📚 Lending Library – Families can borrow a book to enjoy at home together, before returning it for another family to share.
👕 Clothes Swap Shop – A brand-new eco-friendly space where families can give children’s clothes a second life, helping reduce waste and save money.
🥕 Food Swap Shop – Continuing to go strong, supporting families to share surplus items while reducing food waste.

One parent who recently visited the nursery was delighted to see the initiatives in place, commenting:
“I am so pleased to see this, it is important to us that we are sustainable.”

Jay Sparkle, Senior Nursery Manager at Happy Days Saltford, explained the nursery’s motivation behind these new additions:
“We introduced this into our setting because we want to limit the amount of wasted food and clothes. There’s still plenty of life left in the clothes – sharing is caring. Our lending library will hopefully ignite a love of reading in our children. With the recent publication of the National Literacy Trust survey, showing fewer than 18.7% of children aged 8–18 read daily in their free time, our mission is to get books into the hands of every child. Our lending library will allow children to take a book home to enjoy with their families.”

The team at Happy Days Saltford are proud to see families already embracing these new community spaces, which encourage sustainability, sharing, and a love of reading. Families are warmly invited to explore the swap shops and lending library on their next visit to the nursery.

Truro Nursery Grand Opening Marks Exciting Expansion

Playbox Nursery in the heart of Truro, opposite New County Hall and just a short walk from the train station, celebrated a significant milestone on Saturday 9 August with the grand opening of its latest expansion, offering enhanced facilities for children, families, and staff.

The improvements include a brand-new nursery room, a refurbished staff room, a new garden room, and a fully refurbished garden designed to inspire outdoor learning and play. The garden refurbishment builds on the nursery’s existing outdoor offer, which already features two decked areas for free-flow play and a large, mature apple orchard that encourages exploration and a strong connection with nature.

The official ribbon-cutting was carried out by Kim Herbert, Chief Executive Officer of Happy Days Nurseries & Pre-Schools, alongside Wendy Potts, Early Years Operations Manager, who both praised the team’s hard work in bringing the vision to life.

Rated Good by Ofsted, Playbox Nursery offers a vibrant, child-centred environment for children aged 0–5. Alongside the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), children benefit from an enriching curriculum that includes forest school, football, yoga, French, cookery, gardening, construction play, and twice-daily movement-to-music sessions to support physical and cognitive development.

Rebekah Fice-Thomson, Marketing Manager at Happy Days, attended the event and said:
“What a lovely morning the new spaces not only look beautiful but have been thoughtfully designed and kitted out to create inspiring learning environments that support children’s development every day.”

The nursery’s under 2s benefit from a dedicated, temperature-controlled sleep room with a no-shoes policy to promote rest and hygiene, as well as sensory-rich activities that encourage early exploration and joyful learning. The addition of the new nursery and garden rooms further enhances these opportunities, providing more high-quality early years places for local families.

The grand opening was a lively community event, with parents and children exploring the new areas, enjoying refreshments, and taking part in fun activities — a true celebration of the nursery’s commitment to nurturing confident, happy learners through meaningful play and supportive care.

Playbox Nursery is part of the Happy Days Nurseries & Pre-Schools group, which operates settings across the South West, committed to providing exceptional early years education and care.

Counting Down to Alice’s 15,000 ft Skydive for CHSW!

1 mins
Aug 12, 2025

With just a few weeks to go until she takes the leap, our Digital Marketing Executive, Alice, is preparing for her 15,000 ft skydive on Saturday 13th September in aid of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

CHSW provides vital care and support for children with life-limiting conditions and their families across the South West. The charity’s hospices are a lifeline for many, offering respite, palliative care, and a place where families can make precious memories together.

Having grown up just down the road from the hospice, Alice has always been aware of its impact on the community. Since joining Happy Days, she has attended two Rainbow Runs and many Business Club meetings at the hospice, experiences that have given her the motivation to “get up and do it” for such a worthwhile cause.

“I’m really excited for my skydive, but I know that when I look down and can’t see the ground, I’m going to get some major butterflies. Jumping from 15,000 ft is definitely out of my comfort zone, but knowing that every penny raised will go to such an amazing cause makes it all worth it.”

Alice has already raised £295 towards her £500 target, but she’s determined to give her fundraising a final push. To help reach her goal, she’s organised a Charity Tuck Shop in the Happy Days office, selling a range of sweet and savoury snacks.

“I couldn’t be more grateful for all the donations so far,” she added. “I’m excited to do one last big fundraising push and meet that target.”
