Happy Days Nurseries and Pre-Schools are delighted to support The National Lobster Hatchery throughout 2025, raising money with fundraising events throughout the year.
The National Lobster Hatchery is a marine conservation, research and education charity based in Padstow, Cornwall, UK. It raises and nurtures baby lobsters, which are then released around the coasts of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly when they are approximately three months old. Impact on our marine resources is a much wider problem than just lobsters and their visitor centre hopes to broaden their message to address the key sustainability issues faced by our coastal fisheries.
Why this exciting partnership? Happy Days Nurseries and Pre-School cares for young people, whilst The National Lobster Hatchery cares for young lobsters. Not only this but Happy Days believes in making our planet a more sustainable place, a shared initiative with the hatchery.
After hosting a successful ‘Lobster Day’ on International Day Of Charity last year, Happy Days pledge to host a Lobster week during 2025 to raise as much needed funds as possible for this worthy charity as well as sponsoring them for the year.
Last year, the nursery that raised the most money for the hatchery was rewarded with a visit from the hatchery’s lobster technicians. Happy Days Nursery, Truro City raised over £70 for the Hatchery in just one day, they even adopted a family of 4x lobsters and named them after the Happy Days rooms. The children were thrilled by the visit, with technicians bringing baby lobsters for the children to observe. All of the children did an incredible job at listening to the technicians talk about the lobsters journey from the hatchery and back to the sea.
Nicola O’Donnell, C.O.O The National Lobster Hatchery stated, “From a tiny idea to a beautiful partnership, we are so delighted that we are working with Happy Days to combine their nurseries with ours. Both organisations support infants through their initial life stages, and both focused on education and sustainability. The beautiful and powerful parallels are an exciting opportunity to together make big waves in inspiring the next generation of ocean advocates. We are incredibly grateful to the Happy Days team and families for joining our mission and supporting our work in 2025 and beyond”
Following on from International Charity Day Wendy Potts, Early Years Operations Manager, stated, “International Day of Charity aims to raise awareness and give a platform to charity organisations around the world and my sites wanted to raise awareness for a local charity and the important work they do. When The National Lobster Hatchery contacted us to become a partner we jumped at the chance and chose International Day of Charity to start our fundraising activities. We look forward to continuing this partnership throughout 2025.”
