Welsh Curriculum
Our unique curriculum provides opportunities for children to learn, explore and discover, preparing them for a positive transition to school.
Overview
Happy Days ambitious, broad, and balanced curriculum, Where Children Shine, has been adapted to support children in realising the four purposes of the Curriculum for Wales, focusing on the needs of the developing child through the five developmental pathways. It values children as unique, strong, capable, and resilient individuals and recognises that play is fundamental for children’s learning and development. The delivery of the curriculum will support and extend children’s knowledge and skills.
“Where Children Shine” is built up of four key aspects:
Strong & Confident Communicator
This aspect helps the children in our care build confidence and communication skills and supports children’s ability to listen, understand and communicate, which is crucial for lifelong learning and future success. From book clubs to phonetic and musical learning, we employ a range of engaging techniques to help your child develop these key skills.
The Strong & Confident Communicator aspect of our Welsh Curriculum is underpinned by the developmental pathway of communication and Welsh language skills.

With STEM ( science, technology, engineering, & mathematics) projects, integrating these into daily routines, and looking at the importance of environmental issues and sustainability with hands-on activities.
This aspect is underpinned by the developmental pathway of exploration.

Resilient & Motivated Individual

The Welsh Promise
In addition to these programmes, we have also signed up to The Welsh Promise, which supports our commitment to develop the used of the Welsh language ensuring that we create an environment where the Welsh Language is a natural part of our Welsh nurseries offer to children. We aim to achieve the Gold Promise which will enable us to work towards the Active Offer which supports the Welsh Government’s target of one million Welsh speakers by 2050.
The Welsh Promise comprises of three levels:
- Bronze – at this level we will be making our first steps and promising to actively build foundations to begin implementing the Welsh language into the Nursery.
- Silver – at this level we demonstrate that the Welsh language is seen and heard during daily routines in our Nursery and that more Welsh language opportunities are given to children and families in our care. At this stage, we will be working towards providing a bi-lingual service
- Gold – at this level we will demonstrate that the Welsh language is embraced and embedded into the day to day running of the Nursery, and will offer a fully bilingual or Welsh medium service.
As a company, we are committed to ensuring that we recognise and promote Welsh culture as well as the Welsh language.
