The Wanderlust Nature Study is a 52 week programme which has been developed from drawing upon approaches to Early Education in Scandinavia, Canada and Austria. The programme is built around the natural rhythm of the seasons providing opportunities for children to learn about wildlife, natural phenomena and the natural world around them.

STEM is a curriculum approach to learning and development that integrates the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

At Happy Days we encourage the children to be inquisitive and ambitious thinkers by having fun exploring and investigating the STEM programme.

Our quality early years continuous provision enables children to experience and participate in aspects of STEM every day. Our staff team plan and provide a range of scientific and inquiry-based learning opportunities through our play-based curriculum enabling children to discover, explore, experiment, predict, and observe through first hand experiences. This fosters children’s sense of curiosity about the natural world around them, promoting a lifelong interest.

Even if a child never goes into a STEM field as an adult, engaging in STEM experiences in their earliest years can promote ongoing academic success and also prepare them to understand and thrive in the modern world.

The aim of this aspect of our curriculum is to foster children’s understanding, curiosity and appreciation of their natural world, developing their awareness of the importance of environmental issues and sustainability.

When engaged in gardening activities children have the opportunity to develop their understanding of the natural world, begin to appreciate its beauty and learn to take care of it.

Throughout the year the children will have the opportunity to sow seeds, tend to the plants and harvest the produce developing their understanding of where food comes from. This produce will then be used in cooking activities and our Nursery menus supporting children’s understanding of healthier lifestyles.

All Happy Days Nurseries are registered with the Woodland Trust Green Tree School Award which encourages inspiring outdoor learning that furthers children’s knowledge and understanding of trees, woodlands and wildlife.

The Woodlands Trust has three key aims:

• To protect ancient woodland which is rare, unique and irreplaceable
• To restore damaged ancient woodland to enable wildlife to thrive again
• Plant native trees and woodlands to combat climate change and create resilient landscapes for people and animals

When participating in the environmental projects within the Green Tree School Award programme children will learn about the environment, how it impacts wildlife and what they can do to have a long term positive impact on the planet.

Eco Schools is a global programme engaging millions of children across 67 different countries making it the largest environmental schools programme in the world.

Every year, all of our settings work towards their Eco-Schools Green Flag accreditation, following the seven-step framework, enabling children to engage in a hands-on practical programme that empowers them to drive change and improve their environmental awareness.

Whilst participating in the Eco School Programme children will develop their understanding of important environmental issues. They will develop skills and knowledge to enable them to play an active role in protecting the environment now and throughout their lifetimes, which will have a positive impact on the planet.
