Celebrating Jade’s Journey: Exeter’s Inspirational Team Member

Happy Days Nursery in Exeter is thrilled to share Celebrating Jade’s Journey — a story of dedication, resilience, and passion for early years education that inspires us all.

Jade joined Happy Days Exeter last year as part of the Summer Programme while studying for her BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies at the University of Plymouth. Despite the challenges of balancing full-time study with part-time work, Jade has excelled in her role, bringing enthusiasm, empathy, and innovative thinking to the nursery’s Outstanding-rated provision.

Originally from South Africa, Jade’s journey into early years education was both unexpected and inspiring. After relocating to England in 2021, she decided to follow her twin sister’s path and enrol in the Early Childhood Studies programme at the University of Plymouth, drawn by the university’s inclusive approach to international students.

During her studies, Jade embraced opportunities beyond the classroom, volunteering with the Royal Navy Family and People Support (RNFPS). This placement, initially part of her degree requirements, became a passion project that continues to motivate her as she volunteers regularly to support the children of service families. This experience, she says, has broadened her understanding of family life and strengthened her commitment to supporting children’s diverse needs.

Reflecting on her journey, Jade shared that working at Happy Days Nursery Exeter, alongside the guidance of her course tutor Marie Lavelle, has been a key source of inspiration. She credits the nursery’s practitioners for shaping her passion for early years education, highlighting the vital role that dedicated professionals play in nurturing the positive development of children.

With her degree nearing completion, Jade is now preparing to take the next step in her professional journey by applying for a Level 3 Diploma in Youth Work. She hopes this will allow her to build on her knowledge and further support children and families in the community.

At Happy Days Nursery Exeter, the entire team is incredibly proud of Jade’s achievements and the contribution she has made to the nursery. Celebrating Jade’s Journey reminds us that dedication, resilience, and a deep commitment to making a difference in children’s lives are what truly matter.
